A Spoonful of Sugar

Nothing reminds us more of our youth than those sweet treats we couldn’t wait to get our hands on. Whether your favorite guilty pleasure is covered in sprinkles, chocolate-filled or covered in crushed candy, here are four sugar-sweet places in Long Beach to satisfy those childhood hankerings – because there’s always room for dessert.

Devi’s Donuts

Rows of multicolored goodies fill the cases of Devi’s Donuts, a vegan and gluten-free donut shop. Family-owned since 2016, Devi’s Donuts focuses on crafting decadent donuts with a twist. From sweet to savory, the shop offers several innovative flavors like lavender rose, piña colada, smores, espresso, and PB&J. Their local favorite, crème brûlée, is a golden-crusted donut made with caramelized sugar, stuffed with silky house-made custard. Spiced cinnamon rolls and hot to iced coffee are also available on their menu.

3rd & Loma

Apart from spring rolls and vermicelli bowls, the Vietnamese restaurant 3rd & Loma offers luscious soft-serve ice cream. Customers can top their frozen treats with one of their childhood favorite cereals, candies or syrups. Take a scoop or two in a cup, waffle cone, or on top of a delicious pandan waffle or fluffy buttermilk pancake. Coconut shavings and graham cracker crumbles allow you to indulge in playful textures. With a modern exterior and outdoor patio, the restaurant invites people of all ages to stop by and lounge about with a succulent dessert in hand.

301 Loma Ave Long Beach, CA 90814

Open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Churriño

Churriño is a one-of-a-kind dessert spot that makes Brazilian and Latin-inspired churros, born from the two founders' heritages. In a pack of three to seven bite-size churros, customers can cover toppings like cookie crumbles, fruity pebbles, drizzles and more sugary embellishments. Crowd-pleasers include the Gold Miner, stuffed and drizzled with chocolate, Oreos and 24k gold flakes, and the Big Bang, churros packed with strawberry jam and garnished with a variety of colorful toppings. For a limited time, Churriño offers special fall flavors like Autumn Pie, filled with spiced apples and caramel, and Oh My Fudge!, topped with chocolate truffles and ripe strawberries. To pair the toastiness of the churros, customers can purchase a cool scoop of gelato in blue vanilla, Belgium chocolate, or vegan mango.
