Long Beach Transit Commuters Can Have Fun, Too

Bus commuters are often faced with the challenge of having to keep a close eye on the bus schedule while also trying to immerse themselves in the college experience. Most times it feels limiting – never having time for activities such as a quick lunch off campus. It can be easy to fall into the same routine of taking the bus straight to class and catching the next bus straight home. However, there are many amazing local spots near CSULB that are only one quick bus ride away. Here are four routes that you can get on near campus that will take you on a little adventure.

The Crema Cafe

The Crema Cafe is a quick walk to the left of the last stop of the 171 eastbound Long Beach Transit in Seal Beach. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe itself can either be a quick to go sandwich or an entire meal while catching up on homework. The cafe feels quite cozy as it’s encased in a small area in between two clothing shops. It’s a perfect place to read or take a small break from your schoolwork since it’s nice and calm.

Location: 322 Main St.

Hours: Open everyday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Seal Beach

The beach is an obvious go-to when you have a car, but you can also take the 171 eastbound Long Beach transit to get to Seal Beach. It's not far from the stop itself, it is to your right straight down from the last stop. Seal Beach is one of the closest beaches we have, and during the week it’s quite empty. You can find yourself sitting on a bench with a good book and music on the pier. Or, find a nice place on the sand to soak in the sun. It's a good place to relieve stress and relax after a long day of class.. It’s also right near amazing little stores that have antiques and a few cozy coffee shops.

MOLAA

The Museum of Latin American Art is a museum you can find after taking the 92 Westbound Long Beach Transit and getting off on 7th and Alamitos. After this it’s a quick walk to the left around the corner and there you can find the museum. This museum offers amazing work by Latino artists. Currently, the museum features three sections dedicated to the different artists, and also has a garden where they have multiple sculptures by Rober Gumbiner. It’s also a great place to walk around and have some time to yourself. The museum also offers discounts to all CSULB students.

Location: 628 Alamitos Ave.

Hours: Open Wednesday - Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Downtown Long Beach

To get to Downtown Long Beach you can take the 92 westbound Long Beach Transit to Pacific and 3rd. From there you can walk straight down and find a Tacos de Canasta stand that sells tacos for $2. The owner is there from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It's a really good snack or meal to help start your walk. If you’re not feeling the Tacos de Canasta, you can also step off the bus and walk to your right and you’ll find yourself in the heart of downtown Long Beach which offers an abundance of different restaurants from Mexican to Greek food. From there you can go in any direction. If you go right one more time and continue straight down that street you’ll find yourself getting closer to a park known as Rainbow Lagoon where you can do a swan ride, similar to the attraction in Echo Park. Going to Downtown Long Beach leads you to an open door of new adventures.
