LB Queer Restaurants to Support That Support You

Rainbow washing is a common procedure that involves companies incorporating rainbow colors or imagery into their advertising, clothing, accessories and landmarks to signal support for LGBTQI+ equality and gain consumer trust, often without genuine commitment or meaningful impact.

Around June, corporations practicing rainbow washing undergo a colorful transformation, adorning their social media profiles with vibrant, rainbow renditions of their logos.

They may showcase members of the LGBTQI+ community in their advertising and content, often donning Pride-themed merchandise or company attire, sometimes without adequately compensating the queer individuals involved.

By utilizing rainbow flag colors in their marketing, they aim to capture attention and draw customers into their establishments. They may also vaguely reference support for queer organizations without providing concrete evidence.

By normalizing rainbow washing, corporations may undermine the efforts of genuinely supportive organizations and individuals who advocate for LGBTQI+ rights and visibility. It can dilute the impact of authentic representation and advocacy.

However, as July arrives, they swiftly return to their standard operations, leaving behind the LGBTQI+ consumer base they had courted during Pride month, with little to show for their loyalty.

LGBTQI+ people frequently experience harassment and discrimination in public places. With that being said, restaurants that actively promote and embrace the LGBTQI+ community offer safe areas where people can be themselves without worrying about being mistreated or judged.

Backing restaurants that embrace the LGBTQI+ community throughout the year extends beyond simply savoring delicious meals; it entails fostering inclusivity, safety, representation, economic empowerment and social responsibility within society.

Here are some spots in Long Beach famed for their reputation with the LGBTQ+ community.

Members of the Safe Spaces Alliance typically undergo training or education to better understand issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Safe Spaces Alliance is committed to cultivating safe spaces for the LGBTQI+ community. Businesses and organizations can demonstrate their support by showcasing our "YOU ARE WELCOME HERE" decal on their storefronts or websites, signaling to queer individuals that they are embraced, secure, and appreciated.

Serving as a welcoming refuge, it empowers queer individuals to flourish and find their way in a world that can often present challenges.
